Indiana man killed in Luce County snowmobile accident
An Indiana man is dead after his snowmobile crashed in northern Luce County Wednesday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation by the Luce County Sheriff’s Department revealed the fatality was a result of a head on collision between two snowmobiles. Police say it happened around 4:00 p.m. when 40-year-old Joseph Brandel of Milford Ohio was traveling eastbound on Trail #9. While attempting to maneuver around a corner, Brandel crashed into 43-year-old Timothy Hearld of Larwill Indiana.
Brandel sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was transported via medi-vac flight to a hospital in Ohio. Hearld was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
