Illinois man injured after snowmobile goes airborne into tree
An Illinois man is recovering from injuries sustained during a snowmobile accident in Houghton County Monday morning.
Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office say Daniel A. Schmidt, 47, of McHenry Illinois was traveling south on the North Freda Trail in Adams Township around 11 a.m. when he hit a snow drift, sending his snowmobile airborne into a tree. Schmidt was transported from the scene of the accident, 1.5 miles south of Larson Road, to Portage Health System by Mercy Ambulance.
Police say he remains there tonight, but his condition is unknown.
The accident is under investigation.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Adams Township First Responders.
