Huskies volleyball team sweeps Tiffin

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech dominated Tiffin in a three-set GLIAC volleyball sweep at the SDC Gym tonight. The Huskies won by set scores of 25-20, 25-9 and 25-12 to improve to 8-8 overall and 6-4 in the GLIAC.

“That was a good win,” said coach Matt Jennings. “We were aggressive, we followed the game plan and we finished well.

“Tiffin’s a good team when they get it rolling. We were able to play fast and get them out of their system a little bit. It was a good, all-around match for us.”

A balanced Huskies’ stat sheet saw the middles excel once again. Lauren Emmert posted 11 kills on 19 attempts while Stephanie Dietrich added nine kills. Setter Rachel Pohlod posted 27 assists while distributing the ball well. Five different Huskies all had 17 attacks or more.

Michigan Tech posted a 25-20 win in set one after winning five of the last six points. Tiffin (8-7, 4-6 GLIAC) scored three straight to pull within 20-19. Jennings called timeout, and the Huskies responded with two kills and a service ace. A Sylvie Rokosh block finished off the set.

Jacqueline Aird served seven straight times in the second set to give the Black and Gold an 11-1 lead. Rokosh had two more kills and a block on the final three points to seal the 25-9 victory.

Aird served 13 more times in the third set. The first five put the Huskies up 13-3. The final eight were part of a nine-point run to close out the match.

Tech hit .248 as a team and held the Dragons to -.037. The Huskies also posted a season-high 9.0 blocks in the match.

Michigan Tech will play at home again tomorrow with a 3 p.m. match vs. Ohio Dominican.
