Huskies volleyball takes down Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Michigan Tech volleyball team earned a weekend split in Ohio with a 3-1 win over Lake Erie on Saturday (Sept. 20). The Huskies improve to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in GLIAC play.

Tech won with set scores 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-15.

“I’m happy with the weekend,” Tech coach Matt Jennings said. “We learned a lot with some new players in the lineup.”

Stephanie Dietrich was a major force at the net for the Huskies with 12 kills, while hitting a .647 attack percentage. Lauren Emmert added nine kills, two solo blocks and two block assists.

“Our middles absolutely dominated today,” Jennings said. “Steph tore it up. Her and Lauren stepped up big for us.”

Rachel Pohlod set up the Tech attack with 37 assists. She also tallied 17 digs and four kills.

“Rachel adds a lot of athleticism to our setter position,” added Jennings. “She scores points at the net, on the serve, and is also so solid on defense.”

Defensively, the Huskies racked up 85 digs. Along with Pohlod, Jacquline Aird (20), Elle Heinonen (16), Halie Hart (11), and Sarah Rasmussen (10) all finished with double digit digs.

Sara Aultz led the Storm (2-7, 0-4 GLIAC) with a match-high 13 kills. Samantha Knepley had 35 assists, while Kathryn Ferry added 12 digs.

The Huskies continue road play on Tuesday at Northern Michigan. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at Vandament Arena.

“We look forward to Tuesday’s match,” said Jennings. “It’s going to be a good matchup in a good environment.”
