Huskies to face nationally ranked Bulldogs
HOUGHTON, Mich. – In what can only be described as an odd way to start the season, the Huskies have been off for almost two solid weeks after their sweep of Lake State. Tech will be back in action tomorrow night against Ferris State.
The Bulldogs are considered one of the top teams in college hockey. Ferris State has one of the top goaltenders in all the land in C.J. Motte, who led the Bulldogs to the national championship game two years ago. Solving the Bulldogs senior netminder will be among the many challenges for the Huskies against FSU.
“I think that one of the strengths of Ferris obviously is they have a very good goaltender and they’re built from the net out starting with C.J. Motte,” said Huskies head coach Mel Pearson. “Their defensemen are very mobile, they compete very hard and they play good team defense. We’re going to have to work hard to get to the net and get pucks to the net and find any loose pucks that we can. We’re going to have to score in a little of different ways.”
Back to last year, I think every game was a really close game,” said MTU forward Alex Petan. “Defense to offense, it was really quick. This weekend is going to be a highly transitional game. We really have to focus on capitalizing on our chances and if we recover the puck, let’s get up ice quick and create something.”
“When we went down there last year it was two competitive games and I wouldn’t expect anything else this year,” said Huskies defenseman Riley Sweeney.
Michigan Tech was 3-10-1 against nationally ranked teams last season. Puck drop from Big Rapids is set for 7:07 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
