Huskies duo becoming a big time threat

MARQUETTE – Michigan Tech senior quarterback is having a stellar senior season, thanks in part to a quarterback turned wide receiver. Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Cowie is the Huskies leader in receptions and reception yards per game through four games this season.

Cowie caught nine passes for 135 yards and a touchdown against NMU Saturday. The senior signal caller and the sophomore wideout have been on the same page since Cowie arrived on campus. Huskies head coach Tom Kearly describes the chemistry that the two have developed on the football field.

“That’s a senior quarterback with a really good all conference receiver,” said MTU head coach Tom Kearly. Tyler has a lot of faith in him. If Brandon gets any kind of separation at all, Tyler’s going to get him the football.”

“Cowie is special. He’s made some big plays for us,” said Scarlett. “In the end zone he made a touchdown catch and a couple of big catches on third down getting open,” added Scarlett about Cowie’s game against the rival Wildcats.

“I came in as a quarterback, so me and Tyler have been friends for a while now,” said Cowie. “Like I said, it doesn’t get better than him, he’s the best. There’s no other way to put it. I just try to do my best to get open. Even if I’m not, I know he’s going to put it (the ball) right in the spot.”

Cowie was recruited to Michigan Tech as a quarterback. He was converted to a wide receiver last season.
