Hungry Marquette residents enjoy Hotcakes for Hospice breakfast
Hungry people enjoyed breakfast on the harbor in Marquette Saturday to raise money for an area hospice group.
Lake Superior Hospice held its Hotcakes for Hospice fundraiser at the Frazier Boat Yard near Mattson Lower Harbor Park.
This was the second straight year for the breakfast, and it’ll become an annual event going forward.
“We are amazed by how generous the community is,” Lake Superior Hospice director of volunteers and outreach Bethany Buehrly said. “We had so many great donations from local businesses, and it’s great to see the community come out here and support. We’re able to serve the community, so it’s great to see the turnout here.”
Heavy rain early in the morning didn’t keep people from enjoying pancakes, French toast, fresh blueberries, sausage links and more.
The proceeds will go to the organization’s Patient Care Fund.
“That goes to help our patients and their families with specific needs that they might have, whether it be medical supplies or medications that their insurance doesn’t cover, or something beyond the means of their family,” Buehrly said.
Jilbert Dairy, Econo Foods and Farmer Q’s Market were some of the businesses that sponsored the breakfast.
