Marquette Co. fatal shooting update

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post have released more information about the incident from Thursday night in which a woman was fatally shot.

The woman is 50-year-old Lori Lee Lee of Champion.

Police say she was armed with a rifle when officers responded to a domestic dispute at a home on County Road FS in Humboldt Township.

The call came in shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday.

Police say Lee confronted the responding officers outside the home and pointed the rifle at them.

The officers commanded Lee to put the rifle down, and the State Police say that when she refused, a trooper shot her.

An autopsy at Marquette General Hospital determined that Lee died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say the responding officers were a Michigan State Police trooper with 17 years of service and a Marquette County Sheriff’s Department deputy with five years of service.

Both officers are on administrative leave while an investigation into the incident is in progress.
