Huge Lead for Snyder in Governor’s Race
Republican Rick Snyder has a huge lead in the race for governor over Democrat Virg Bernero.
The latest poll of 600 likely voters by Mitchell Research of East Lansing found Snyder ahead overall 53% to 26%.
He leads among men (61%–23%), women (46%–28%) and independents (54%–13%).
The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4%, and it was conducted August 25th through the 29th.
The Mitchell poll is the latest in a series of surveys which show Snyder, the former president of Gateway Computer, with a commanding lead over Bernero, the mayor of Lansing.
But the pollsters say that Michigan remains a very competitive state for Democrats and they expect the margin to close as election day approaches.
The last Republican to win atop the ticket in Michigan was John Engler in 1998.
Bernero came back to win the Democratic primary in August after trailing House Speaker Andy Dillon by double digits in earlier polls.
