Crews respond to house fire, cause unknown

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Township Fire Department responded to a structural fire earlier this afternoon.

The fire happened at 434 Cherry Street near downtown Negaunee. Damage to the home was limited to the exterior siding in the backyard. Neighbors called the fire department when they saw black smoke coming from the back of the house.

Several law enforcement officials appeared at the scene, such as the Negaunee Township Police Department, the county rescue, and the Michigan State Police. The cause of the fire is unknown and everyone did make it out safely, including two dogs that were home alone at the time.
