HOUGHTON — Energy rates are increasing, temperatures are dropping and a Copper Country organization is working hard to come up with a solution to the energy crisis in Houghton County.

The Houghton Energy Efficiency Team, or HEET, had its monthly meeting Tuesday to discuss forming a Community Advisory Board. The six–person board includes supporters from local organizations and government officials.

The team also began looking at establishing several subcommittees like marketing and fundraising coordinators. These individuals don’t have to be energy efficiency experts.

“We also need a sort of oversight from members of the community to help regulate the ideas that they come up with to see what is feasible and what is not and to make sure that the ideas that we propose are accessible to every member of the community,” HEET member Abhi Kantamneni said.

A list of the positions is available on their website, HoughtonEnergyEfficiency.com. The team wants to fill the positions as soon as possible.

It’ll also release more information to the community next week during Media Day, scheduled for next Wednesday.
