Houghton County joins several others in the U.P. passing new rules on where off-road vehicles can, and can’t, use county roads.

The county board has unanimously passed an ORV ordinance.

U.P. counties have the right to open up to 30% of their own roads to ORVs.

Houghton County is allowing them on 8 primary roads as well as all local roads.

Under a new state law, ORV drivers can’t drive on the shoulder of a road.

They have to ride with regular traffic and drive 25 miles per hour or slower.

The Keweenaw County board passed a similar ordinance last week.
