Hospice group finalist for Governor’s Award

Lake Superior Hospice, Michigan’s oldest and Marquette County’s only nonprofit hospice, has been chosen as a finalist for this year’s Governor’s Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer Program. The Governor’s Service Awards honor the outstanding efforts of Michigan volunteers.

This year, the Michigan Community Service Commission received more than 140 nominations. A statewide panel of representatives from nonprofit organizations, schools and businesses joined the MCSC Board of Commissioners in choosing the finalists. Each of the eight award categories has five finalists.

As a finalist, Lake Superior Hospice is invited to attend “An Evening with the Stars” at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids on July 23rd.

Within the past year, the Lake Superior Hospice volunteer program has been awarded the Marquette County Outstanding Volunteer Program Award and the Upper Peninsula Outstanding Volunteer Program Award. With an active volunteer team of over 80 individuals, Lake Superior Hospice volunteers provide caregiver relief and friendly visits for the families that it serves. In 2012, volunteers provided 2,009 total hours of support, which was a cost savings of $41,799.04.
