Hope Starts Here Challenge returning

A major fundraiser for a U.P. organization involved in brain cancer research is retunirng for its eighth year.

The Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center’s Hope Starts Here Challenge will take place on Saturday, May 11th.

Several different events are taking place that day as part of the challenge, including a half-marathon, a 10-kilometer run, a 5K run, a duathlon and a non-competitive leisure walk.

The duathlon involves a 5K run, a 10-mile mountain bike ride and then another 5K run.

Last year’s challenge drew about 500 participants, and they raised about $18,000 for the center’s brain tumor research.

Organizers are aiming for 600 participants this year.
