Honor Flight fundraiser at Elmer’s in Escanaba

The Upper Peninsula Honor Flight is out in full force in Escanaba today to help raise money for great cause.

Volunteers prepared brats outside of Elmer’s County Market to help spur donations for the next mission to Washington D.C. To date, over 300 veterans have had a chance to see the memorials dedicated in their honor.

The next trip will include even more former soldiers an opportunity to take part in the festivities.

“We now are opening up the Honor Flight to take Korean War veterans to Washington D.C.,” noted Paula Waeghe, a member of the Board of Directors for the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight.

Selling brats is just one of the many fundraising efforts put in place to allow the veterans to fly free of charge.

“We always like to thank the community for the support they’ve given us so far. We are all about the veterans and we need your continued support,” Waeghe added.

If you know a veteran of either World War II or the Korean War and would like to help facilitate their next trip, applications are now being accepted.

You can help contribute by stopping over at Elmer’s County Market in Escanaba for a brat and some balloons between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
