Some Houghton residents woke up this weekend in their own home for the first time in months.  ABC 10’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen talked with the first person to move back into the Heritage Manor Apartments.

It’s good to be back home.

The fire that displaced roughly 40 senior citizens in Houghton last August began in Marge’s apartment.  The exact cause remains undetermined.

Like everyone in the 5-story apartment complex, Marge has spent the last seven months anxiously awaiting the renovation of the building that was severely damaged by fire, smoke, and water.

And at around 8:30 Saturday morning, Marge was the first to move back in.

Nine residents moved back in the first day and the rest are expected to be back in the building by April 1st.  For Marge and the other seniors, it’s the end of a long ordeal that will leave them forever changed.
