MARQUETTE — The holidays are coming up and that means celebrations and events across the UP.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority will have several events coming up starting next week with Ladies Night. Ladies night is a shopping experience for women to tour the downtown area and have the chance to win prizes.

They also have the Holiday parade coming up on December third, and even a few visits from Saint Nick.

Executive Director of the Marquette DDA Mona Lang says, “We also have the holiday parade, The Winter Snow Fun Parade, and visit with Santa, and the city tree lighting coming up. Come and see Santa. He’ll be making his arrival in Downtown Marquette to light the tree with the mayor and the community.”

The DDA met this morning to discuss upcoming plans for the winter months, including the purchase of new items for the Farmer’s Market thanks to a seventy one thousand dollar grant from the US Department of Agriculture.

“Part of the grant is funding two really big heaters that will help keep the area warm,” Lang added, “so on the exterior we will be able to have some vendors outside, weather permitting, and our shoppers and vendors alike will be nice and toasty warm.”

Coming up after the holidays in January, the DDA will celebrate it’s 40th anniversary. They are planning on sponsoring a business after hours to celebrate. The date for the after hours is set for January twentieth, and the location is still to be determined.
