Its been more than three years since the Marquette Rangers were sold and moved to Flint. However, a new hockey team is on its way to Marquette.

The Minnesota Junior Hockey League announced the addition of the Marquette Royales to the MnJHL’s Great Lakes Division. Like the Rangers, the Royales will play their home games at Lakeview Arena.

The Royales will be comprised of players who were born between 1993-95. Marquette native Mike Stanaway will be the inaugural head coach of the Royales.

Marquette’s new hockey team will be a Tier III Junior hockey team. The Rangers were a Tier II team.

The Royales will host tryouts August 3-4 in Notre Dame, IN, and August 23-25 in Marquette.
