Hit-and-run suspect waives preliminary exam

HOUGHTON — An Atlantic Mine man arrested in connection to a hit-and-run incident on March 10th has been bound over to Circuit Court.

Benjamin Riutta, 31, waived his preliminary examination at his probable cause conference in Houghton County District Court Wednesday morning. Riutta is charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death.

He was arrested after allegedly driving off the road in Adams Township, hitting a 36–year–old female pedestrian, and then leaving the scene. Riutta’s first appearance in Circuit Court has not been scheduled yet.
