MARQUETTE, Mich. – Bill Hill has been named assistant coach of the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team, Coach Bill Sall announced on Tuesday (July 23).

Hill spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach with the women’s basketball team under Troy Mattson. During the 2009-10 season, Hill was an assistant coach for the NMU men’s basketball team under Dean Ellis.

“I’m extremely excited about adding Bill as my assistant,” Sall said. “After going through the process and interviewing a number of candidates, I came to the conclusion that Bill was best-suited with his passion for NMU as an alum, former player and former assistant. I knew he was a perfect fit for our program as we get moving in the right direction.”

Hill holds the school record for three-pointers made in a career with 225 when he lettered for the Wildcats from 2000-04. He is also the fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,612 career points.

Hill was named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team in 2001-02 and 2003-04. He was also selected to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2000-01.

Hill was a two-time team MVP, two-time team captain and team newcomer of the year in 2000-01. He also holds the school record for points scored by a freshman with 449.

Hill has spent time at the high school coaching level as a boy’s basketball assistant at Marquette Senior High School and as the boy’s head basketball coach at Ishpeming High School.
