‘Hematite Day’ in Ishpeming

The city of Ishpeming is celebrating today as ‘Hematite Day’.

Last week, the Ishpeming City Council declared Wednesday, January 9 as ‘Hematite Day’ to remember the special season the Ishpeming High School football team had. The Hematites won the Division 7 State Championship over Detroit Loyola, capturing the schools first football championship since 1979.

To mark the day the City Council asked everyone to wear the team’s primary color, blue.
