Heartwood Forestland Sale Approved

In a 6-1 vote the Marquette City Commission approved the sale of 100 acres of the city owned Heartwood Forestland at Tonight’s Marquette City Commission Meeting.

A couple of bids were on the table tonight one from a private purchaser and one from the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority.

After a lengthy discussion the Commission approved the sale of the land to the Solid Waste Management Authority for $180,000.

The Commission also voted in favor of 100% of the proceeds being used to reduce the debt owed on the remaining Heartwood Forestland property.

Community members also voiced their opinion’s of the lands sale and while many differed on who the land should go to.

Most agreed that land should be sold and the money used towards the accumulated debt.

In other business the Commissioners also approved the City of Marquette Parks and Recreation 5 year master plan.
