Harvey Army Reservists Headed to Iraq

A few days from now, Army Reservists based in Marquette County will start getting ready to go to Iraq.

The Army Reserve 652nd Engineer Company is mostly based out of Wisconsin.

But it has a detachment in Harvey, and 95 soldiers in it are going.

The Army Reserve says they’re leaving Saturday for training at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

Then, on March 1st, they’ll be deployed to Iraq for a year to build bridges.

But that deployment could be extended if the Army thinks the situation warrants it.

The last U.P. soldiers to get called up are in the National Guard 107th Engineer Battalion.

Some of the battalion’s soldiers are based out of Calumet.

Those soldiers have spent the last 2 months at Camp Shelby, Mississippi getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan.

It’s scheduled to happen for them this weekend.
