HOUGHTON / HANCOCK — An effort is underway to collect food for the hungry in the Copper County.

The Michigan Harvest Gathering food drive is in its 25th year of helping to feed the hungry. U.P. Health System-Portage is partnering with them once again to make sure that people in the Copper County get something to eat.

They have set up collection centers at three locations: the University Center on the Michigan Tech campus and the Express Care and Fitness Center on Sharon Avenue in Houghton as well as at the main hospital in Hancock.

All non-perishable food collected will go directly to the Western UP Food Bank in Houghton. The food bank helps feed those in Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties. The food drive will continue through October 30th.
