Happy St. Urho's Day

Today is a special day to commemorate a famous saint by wearing a particular color and partaking in a popular beverage.

No, St. Patrick’s Day is still tomorrow, but for Finnish-Americans, today is the widely-celebrated St. Urho’s Day, invented in the 1950s.

So what better place to ask about such an honored holiday as the campus of Hancock’s Finlandia University?

Most people we spoke with couldn’t identify the other color besides green that you’re supposed to wear on St. Urho’s Day (purple), what St. Urho supposedly drove out of Finland (grasshoppers) or what the favorite hued beverage of St. Urho’s Day is (grape juice or wine).

Happy St. Urho’s Day!
