Happy Independence Day!

Today marks the 94th Annual Finnish Independence Day celebration hosted by Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.

To mark the occasion, festivities begin at 6:30pm this evening and will include musical performances, refreshments, and the announcement of the Hankooki Heikki award.

Speaking at the event will be Anneli Halonen, the cultural counselor of the Embassy of Finland in Washington D.C.

Her topic will be Cultural Identity and Finnish Art and with the celebration coinciding with the 20th Year Retrospective Exhibition of the Finlandia University Gallery Contemporary Finnish-American Artist Series…the topic couldn’t be more on the spot.
