Hancock Family Loses Home in Weekend Fire

A weekend fire in Hancock leaves a house destroyed.

Firefighters say it happened a little after 4:30 Saturday afternoon at 922 Summit Street.

The house quickly became engulfed in flames that were fed by a natural gas line inside the house.

The gas cause the fire to burn faster than usual, and crews consider it to be the main reason the home is a total loss.

The flames also destroyed an RV trailer.

The cause is unknown, but the state police fire marshal is investigating that.

No one was hurt, but it’s not clear whether anyone was inside when the house caught fire.

The family of 4 is getting some help from the Red Cross, and their church is going to help them out until they can find permanent housing.
