MARQUETTE — The Marquette Arts and Culture Center is hard at work helping to create a spooky treat to celebrate the spookiest time of year.

The third annual Halloween Spectacle will start with a series of processions that feature numerous volunteers entertaining the City of Marquette with a wide variety of performing arts skills. This year’s theme, “Spirits of the Lake,” is a tribute to an original poem by U.P. Poet Laureate Russell Thornburn. The community is invited to don their costumes and march in the unique event.

“This is the third year the city will be producing the Halloween Spectacle with the Downtown Development Authority, and it’s basically an evening of puppetry, dance, music – someone described it as ‘Cirque de Soleil Yooper style’ – very, very great artists, fine art, happening right downtown Marquette on October 25th,” said Tiina Harris, Community Services Manager for the center.

The processions begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night in four locations in Marquette: Harlow Park, Mattson Lower Harbor Park, the Rock Street parking lot, and the Peter White Public Library. A haunting performance will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Marquette Commons, and just in case the performers can’t scare off the weather, a rain date is set for November 1st.
