Haidar leads way for Huskies in win vs. Findlay

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team led from start to finish in a 66-49 GLIAC win over No. 13 Findlay Thursday (Dec. 6) at the SDC Gymnasium.

Tech’s led grew to as many as 11 in the first half and the defense held Findlay in single digits until just over seven minutes remaining in the half. Tech would enter the break with a narrow 27-24 lead.

The Huskies would enjoy a double digit lead for most of the second half, including a game-high 17 points at the end of regulation.

“I was really pleased with our defense tonight and we executed our game plan,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “Findlay is a well balanced and well coached team. Tonight’s win is a real feather in our cap.”

Senior Ali Haidar led the Huskies with a dominating performance that included a game-high 22 points after shooting 7-of-14 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw
line. He completed the double-double with 15 rebounds.

Coach Luke praised the play of junior Austin Armga and sophomore Phil Romback finished with 16 and 11 points.

Jake Heagen led the Oilers with 17 points.

The Huskies shot 86-percent (19-22) from the free throw line, their best mark in a game this season.

Tech will host Hillsdale Saturday (Dec. 8).
