Forest Park senior forward Lexi Gussert has been named the winner of the Miss Michigan basketball award by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan and the Class ‘D’ Player of the Year by the Associated Press. Gussert has won the Class ‘D’ Player of the Year award for a second time. She won it last season as a junior.

Gussert has averaged just under 30 points per game this season for the Trojans. She has more than 2,500 points in her career at Forest Park. Earlier this season, Gussert broke the all-time U.P. scoring mark in both boys and girls basketball.

Gussert and the Trojans are back in the Class ‘D’ state semifinals, where they will face Athens Thursday at 7:50pm at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

Superior Central forward Vanessa Freberg and Stephenson Guard Tiffany Wangerin were the two other U.P. girls basketball players were named to the Class ‘D’ All-State team. Stephenson head coach Mark Simon was named to the honorable selection team as the coach of the year.
