Gruber and Husband Sign With NMU Women\’s Basketball

The Northern Michigan University Women\’s Basketball team announces the signing of two additional high school seniors to the 2011 recruiting class. Lauren Gruber and Katelyn Husband have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Wildcats during the 2011-12 season.

Lauren Gruber is from West Bend, Wis. and played at West Bend East High
School. Gruber is a 5-8 guard who averaged 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 4.5 assists per game. She is a three-time First Team Wisconsin Little Ten Conference selection. Gruber was awarded the West Bend Area Player of the Year along with Honorable Mention selection in the Milwaukee Journal and Wisconsin Basketball Coaches All-State Team.

Katelyn Husband is from South Bend, Ind. and played for Mishawaka High
School. She is a 5-7 guard who averaged 10 points, 3.9 steals, 3.4 assists
and made 34 three-pointers at 42 percent per game. Husband was a Second Team Northern Indiana Conference selection and was selected to play in the Character of Champions All-Star Game. Her team finished with an 18-4 record and was ranked in the top 20 team in the state of Indiana.

\”Both Lauren and Katie are extremely athletic, aggressive and physical
guards,” head coach Troy Mattson said. “They are very similar to Steffani Stoeger and Kellie Rietveld in the way that they play. Both have a very high IQ for basketball and they will add much needed depth to our guard positions.\”

The Wildcats signed six student-athletes in the early signing period in
November:

Abbey DeBruin, Kaukauna High School, Wis., 6-0 Forward
Courtney Lemon, Sussex-Hamilton High School, Wis., 6-3 Forward
Eryn Maday, Utica High School, Mich., 5-9 Guard
Sarah Miller, Utica High School, Mich., 5-8 Guard
