Groundbreaking ceremony for expansions on assisted living facility

MARQUETTE — A local assisted living facility had a groundbreaking ceremony earlier today for some exciting new renovations.

Brookridge Heights in Marquette will be undergoing a 4.5 million dollar expansion in the near future. The expansion includes 30 new rooms, updated dining areas, along with additional courtyards. Brookridge Heights wants to continue to make their facilities, really feel like home.

“Brookridge Heights has always provided a home like setting to make it very comfortable for the individuals” said Brookridge Heights Executive Director, Neal Crothers. “They come in and are very at home here, they have their own apartments, they never lose their rights, they fit in very nicely.”

The expansion of the facilities is in response to a potential high demand of occupancy in the future, especially in one of the U.P.’s larger cities.

“We’re going to be running into a wall at some point in time because we don’t have enough facilities. We have several great facilities here now and so this expansion will help increase availability and access for people who need those services” said Upper Peninsula Health Plan CEO, Dennis Smith.

The groundbreaking ceremony ended with a reception inviting all members of the assisted care to join. The expansion is set to be complete by early 2017.
