Great Lakes decorations in Mqt.

The streets of Marquette’s downtown area have some newly-placed decorations this week.

The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Conference has inspired a community art project.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority, the Superior Watershed Partnership and the Marquette Arts and Culture Center have put out a unique welcome mat.

“We have U.S. flags, Canadian flags and wooden decorated silhouettes of the five Great Lakes throughout downtown,” said Marquette DDA marketing and administrative assistant Lizzie Corser. “The lakes were decorated by businesses, nonprofits, families and individuals to celebrate the conference.”

The DDA arranged the creation of the wooden Great Lakes cutouts.

The Arts and Culture Center distributed the cutouts to the people and businesses that decorated them.

“We’ve done them for the Hockey On Third parade,” Corser said. “We did them for the Model A convention that came to town last summer, and now we get to welcome the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Conference with the lakes this summer.”

The flags and lake silhouettes will be on display in downtown Marquette until next Monday, June 24th.
