Grant money for U.P. rural health clinics
The Upper Peninsula Health Care Network has received almost a quarter million dollars in grant money and will use the funds in rural health clinics in the U.P.
UPHCN plans on using the funds in federally qualified health centers and health departments to provide training in health system improvements, like smoking cessation, and quality improvements.
The grant will also continue assistance with certified electronic health record technology.
“UPHCN is well positioned to provide this quality-improvement training for Upper Peninsula health care providers as an extension of existing work through the Michigan Center for Effective I.T. Adoption,” UPHCN Executive Director Dennis H. Smith said in a press release. “We believe that by implementing quality improvement along with meaningful-use standards in primary-care offices, the results will lead to improved health outcomes, enhanced disease management, better engagement of patients and providers, and sustainable improvements in health care delivery for the residents of the Upper Peninsula.”
The $450,000 is funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Health Resources & Service Administration Division.
