Granholm Vetoes Sunday AM Liquor Bill

It may be some time before Michigan allows Sunday-morning liquor sales.

Governor Jennifer Granholm vetoed the bill that would allow Sunday morning and Christmas Day liquor sales.

The governor supports the bill but believes other liquor changes within the bill are unacceptable.

Granholm objected changes that would include restaurants’ ability to supply their own alcohol at events they cater, stores that sell alcohol to allow wine and beer tasting and community colleges to provide alcoholic drinks for culinary arts programs.

Granholm invited the legislature to rework the bill, but it was unclear whether it could survive another wave of intense lobbying by interest groups linked to liquor sales.
