Grand Marais man arraigned on multiple burglary charges, facing others

GRAND MARAIS — A Grand Marais man has been arraigned several charges related to a string of burglaries over the past couple of months.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Department arrested 39-year-old Carl Alan Yeager on October 31st, and he is currently lodged in the Alger County Jail. Sheriff’s deputies say they had received reports of at least nine burglaries in the Grand Marais area since October 24th.

Yeager was arraigned on the charges of ‘Home Invasion,’ ‘Breaking and Entering’ and ‘Habitual Offender.’ He is also facing charges of attempting to smuggle a controlled substance into the jail.

Deputies say they’ve recovered many of the stolen items, which included generators, chainsaws, power tools, woodworking tools, gold coins and prescription drugs. There are still some items that are not accounted for, however.

Deputies say there are multiple suspects in this case, and they believe it appears to be a network that traffics in stolen property. They say the suspects have also been tied to burglaries in other area communities that are being looked into by neighboring law enforcement.

Deputies also say that the trafficking of prescription pills, cocaine and marijuana are also associated with these crimes.

The Sheriff is asking that anyone with information regarding similar crimes in the area to call (906) 387-4444.
