Gov’t shutdown: U.P. seniors do without

Many low-income seniors in Marquette and Alger Counties will feel an immediate impact of the U.S. government shutdown.

AMCAB officials say there will be no delivery of the Commodity Supplement Food Program boxes October 11 and 12 for the two counties – due to the government shutdown.

Lori Stephens-Brown, AMCAB Community Nutrition Services Director, says these seniors depend on the delivery of the monthly 40 pound box of food.  She says residents can help out in two ways:  donate to area food pantries to make more food available to these needy seniors, and contact your legislators to express concern about the impact of the shutdown.

AMCAB is a local Community Action Agency serving residents of Alger and Marquette Counties.
