Gov. Snyder wishes safe 4th of July weekend

From Governor Rick Snyder’s Office:

Gov. Rick Snyder offered the following statement as the July 4 holiday weekend gets under way:

“As families across Michigan prepare to enjoy the Fourth of July, I wish everyone a safe holiday filled with great fun and good friends.  Let’s all do our part to keep the roads safe by obeying traffic laws and allowing extra time to reach our Pure Michigan destinations.

“July 4 has a special place in the heart of every American.  It marks the birth of the liberties, principles and values that we as a nation hold dear.  This also is a special time for those who aspire to join our American family.  We always have been a welcoming country.  If we made a short list of what made America great, immigration would be on it.  Immigrants have left a positive, indelible imprint on our state and nation.  That’s why I applaud the U.S. Senate for its passage of bipartisan immigration reform legislation, and urge the U.S. House to do the same.  As we reflect on our shared heritage that unites us as Americans, we should commit to strengthening Michigan and America by enacting common-sense policies that lets immigrants continue contributing to our greatness as entrepreneurs and skilled professionals.

“Those of us who are fortunate to call Michigan home have a lot to celebrate this Fourth of July.  We are the nation’s comeback state.  Through bold reforms and a positive vision, we are unleashing the spirit of entrepreneurship and independence that built this state.  We are reinventing Michigan to create more and better jobs for families and prepare our children for the exciting opportunities that lay ahead.  Working together, we’ll keep our state moving forward as an economic engine that drives America’s greatness.”
