Golf outing helps scholarship fund

MARQUETTE — One golf outing was held earlier today to help NMU students who are financially struggling.

The Blueberry Golf Classic is an annual event held at Northern Michigan University’s golf course. Golfers came to raise money for the student flexible aid fund. This is a scholarship for NMU students who have faced unforeseen circumstances that typical financial aid would not cover.

“There are so many students who struggle, they work really hard to get through college and they get close to the end and something happens. We really want to make sure that all the effort they’ve put into getting their degree gets in fruition, so we really want to help them get that last step behind them” said NMU Faculty Mary Crampton.

This scholarship fund is typically awarded to around 35 students. Members from all over the community decided to stop by and chip in.

“I’m so delighted to see so many people from our community come out to help raise funds to support students who have some real financial needs. This is a really special fund that we raise money for” said NMU President, Dr. Fritz Erickson.

Any golfer who signed up for the golf classic were also given the traditional blueberry lunch.
