GLIAC Volleyball: Findlay 3 Northern Michigan 2

MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan University volleyball team was defeated 3-2 by the University of Findlay on Saturday (Sept. 29) from Vandament Arena in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. NMU is now 11-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

In the first set, the ‘Cats were down 9-3 and came back to win 25-16. NMU won the second set, 25-22 after trailing 9-5. However, NMU couldn’t hang on in the third set. The Oilers (7-6, 4-2 GLIAC) led every point for the last three sets to win the match (25-19, 25-22 and 15-12).

Junior Lina Lopes led the team with 21 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Lisa Studnicka added 14 more digs, eight kills and a service ace. Junior Kalli Herron had three aces and 14 kills. Junior Kellisha Harley finished with 46 assists on the night. NMU had 59 kills as a team for kill percentage of .163.

For the Oilers, Mackenzie Vorst and Danielle Taflinger each had 11 kills. Brittany Hall had 15 digs and led the team in service aces with four.

Between the two teams, there were combined 46 points scored on serves in all sets.

The ‘Cats will travel to Ohio for a pair of games next weekend against Malone on Friday (Oct. 5) and Walsh on Saturday (Oct. 6).
