MARQUETTE — ‘Tis the season for giving, and one Upper Peninsula media outlet is hoping you’ll give a little to veterans.

Great Lakes Radio is hosting Christmas Is For Veterans. It’s a gift drive with all donations going to veterans at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

It starts with the home compiling a wish list of items that are needed and passing it on to the radio network.

“They take that list and distribute it and advertise on the radio, asking for any people who are out doing their Christmas shopping to buy something off that list and then they drop it off at the radio station,” Jacobetti Home activity programmer and volunteer coordinator Ken Arseneau said.

After gifts have been collected, they are taken to the home a day or two before Christmas for a party. It’s been a successful drive over the years and some of the veterans are surprised at the care and support the community offers.

Arseneau said, “Christmas is a time of giving and we always are reminded of that at this time of year, to think of people who may not be able to get out and get for themselves. We have veterans at the Jacobetti home for veterans who appreciate any reminder that people are thinking of them in the community.”

Items can be dropped off at Great Lakes Radio or at Synergy Fitness in Marquette.
