Getting ready for Lake Superior Theatre’s summer season

Although winter ended a few weeks ago, the Lake Superior Theatre’s summer season is just getting started.

The theatre held auditions today for two of its summer productions: I Do, I Do and Pippin.

The two plays are quite different from one another, but both feature singing and dancing.

I Do, I Do is the story of one couple’s married life, while Pippin is about an heir to the Frankish throne searching for true happiness.

I Do, I Do director Moire Embley said having local theatre is a great addition to the community.

“The Lake Superior Theatre is one of the only professional theatre groups in town where sometime the actors are able to get compensated for their craft,” Embley said.  “It not only nurtures the youth theatre and giving them a performance during the summer season, but it also allows Northern students that stay in town for the summer to participate in the theatre and continue to be involved.  Also it allows those community actors who are out of college to still be able to be on stage.”

“The Lake Superior Theatre really plays a vital part in the community,” Pippin director Dave Dagenais said.  “Summer theatre is in the historic Frazier boathouse and the space converts into a really charming theatre space.”

“There are a lot of local theatre companies and I hope that people support all of these companies.  Especially in the summer, it’s great to be down at the boathouse, down near the Mattson Park and it’s just a really great place  in the summer, which sounds really good right now.”

Auditions for both plays continue Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Graveraet School, with performances scheduled for July and August.
