Get something back for doing your holiday shopping locally

ISHPEMING/NEGAUNEE — Holiday shopping season is on its way. For the fourth year now, the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce is giving members of the community an opportunity to get something back for shopping locally.

For every $50 spent at a chamber member business, members of the community get a chance to win great prizes, just for shopping locally. The grand prize is three hundred dollars in chamber bucks.

“They’re essentially a gift card for you to use at any chamber member business,” said Executive Director Kori Tossava, “we also have many gifts provided to us by our chamber members. That ranges anything from gift certificates to the businesses to baskets. Just kind of a broad range. Last year we had about 15 actual prizes and so this year we’re hoping to increase that as well just so that even if you don’t win the main prize you get the opportunity to win something.”

Other improvements have been implemented to the program to make it easier for both participants and businesses.

“All the customer has to do is save their receipts from any chamber member business and we take on the work of going through their receipt, punching their card from them here,” added Tossava, “so you don’t have to take a physical punch card with you. We hold on to all of them at the office here because this is where you’re going to want to drop off your receipts.”

The campaign began on November 1st and all receipts must be into the chamber by five p.m. on December 22nd.
