ISHPEMING — With gem experts from all over descending upon the U.P. this weekend, it’s time to rock.

It is going to be a gem of a show with rocks, minerals and fossils dating back to pre–historic times. The Elks Club is the place to catch these sparkles, and hang with the rockhounds.

“The dealers will be more than happy to sit down with you about whatever minerals you have, you can go and pick up material from any of the dealers and have them wire wrap a ring for you or a pendant,”: said Ernest Johnson, Gem Show Chairman.

The Rock and Mineral Club of Ishpeming is hosting the event. It’s great for rock lovers looking to enhance their current collection or for those interested in starting one.

Johnson adds,” Depending on where you get them from, there will be fossils that will go back a hundred million years.”

Expect to see thousands of specimens, along with raffles, a kids area and a silent auction. The 40th Annual Upper Peninsula Gem and Mineral show is free and be sure to stop by the Cliffs Mine Shaft for even more rocks. The Gem & Mineral show is Saturday. August 1, 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
