Gas Station Robber Gets 5 Months in Jail

A Munising gas station employee who claimed she was robbed to cover up her own theft will go to jail for 5 months.

23-year-old Marlena Nevarez was recently convicted of larceny from a building and filing a false police report.

She’s actually been sentenced to a year in jail and 2 years probation.

Nevarez will spend 5 months in jail right away.

If she completes that, and the probation, without incident, the rest of the jail term will be suspended.

Nevarez was working at the Citgo Quick Food Mart in Munising last January when she claimed she was robbed while carrying a night deposit to the bank.

Police later discovered she’d actually stolen the money herself.

They say she told them a masked man, dressed in black, approached her and then left on foot.
