MARQUETTE — Only 45 days stand between now and the highly–anticipated Fourth of July. And residents will have their chance to donate to the fabulous festivities at a fundraising event this weekend.

You’re invited to the Up North Lodge on Saturday to participate in an event that helps fund the fireworks for the city of Marquette.

The event will feature a silent auction that includes a wide variety of prizes like Packers tickets and golf packages. There will also be the opportunity to purchase tickets from the rotary club for a $12,000 grand prize.

This is just one of several fundraisers put on by the committee throughout the year.

“For us, our fundraising goes on all year long. Anytime we can do a fundraiser and raise anything, it’s good. We’ve got enough for the fireworks but we’re already looking at next year,” said Fundraising Coordinator Pat Black. “We usually spend somewhere around $30–35,000. They’re very expensive. Like I said, the fundraising goes on all year.”

Along with the auction, the Keweenaw Brewing Company is taking over the taps and offering beer samples.

The event runs from noon until 8 p.m.
