Fugitive back in custody facing additional charges
HOUGHTON — A Calumet man who skipped out on bond and eluded police for more than three weeks was back in court today.
36-year-old Isaac Laplander is back in custody and facing additional charges. He is now charged with Breaking and Entering With Intent, a ten year felony, and Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, a five year felony.
Laplander was out on bond when he allegedly stole a vehicle from Kissell Chevrolet in Calumet and took off to Wisconsin on April 30th. He was arrested this past weekend at U.P. Health System-Marquette.
His original charges include breaking and entering and safe-breaking, relating to an incident at Harter’s Auto Parts in Calumet on April 23rd.
Laplander waived his probable cause hearing and a preliminary exam has been scheduled for June 22nd. Bond was set at $1.5 million cash.
