Fraud charge for MI Supreme Ct. justice
One of the justices on the Michigan Supreme Court will have to face a federal bank fraud charge.
Justice Diane Hathaway is leaving the court on Monday; she filed retirement papers a few days before Christmas.
The complaint against Justice Hathaway was filed on Friday in U.S. District Court in Detroit.
She’s accused of fraudulent real estate dealings.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette issued a statement today about the situation:
“I applaud and appreciate the hard work of the FBI Special Agent In Charge Robert Foley and U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade who brought this controversy to an end. Public corruption scandals have damaged the public’s trust in government and tarnished our state’s reputation.
“Now our state’s top court can move beyond this cloud of controversy.”
