Foundation pledges to give back

A number of organizations in Marquette County are in line to receive grants totaling more than $400,000 over the next few years, thanks to the Cliffs Foundation.

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum is among those receiving pledges. The historical facility will receive $200,000 over the next five years to upgrade its exhibits. The museum plans to upgrade the technological aspects of the exhibits, allowing for a more interactive experience.

Troy Henderson, a historian, said, “We’ll also be upgrading the end of the exhibit to talk a little bit about large-scale open pit mining, which happens today, and some of the reclamation efforts, for instance some of the newer trends and how it impacted the Marquette Iron Range.”

The museum expects the enhancements to be very noticeable.

Father Marquette School and Northern Michigan University were also honored.

Father Marquette will receive $100,000 over the next two years to convert a breezeway into a community gathering and public reception area.

NMU will be granted $250,000 over the next five years to continue developing its Clinical Laboratory Science programs.
