Forsyth Twp. house fire

A fire in Forsyth Township destroyed a home last night and sent one man to the hospital.

The house on County Road 545 was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at about 6:30 pm.

It took about seven hours to put out the blaze.

Crews were called back to the scene at 4 am when the fire rekindled.

A resident of the home was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor burns.

The Forsyth Township, Skandia-West Branch and Chocolay Township Fire Departments all assisted at the scene.

Authorities say that the cold temperatures played a factor in putting out the fire.

With single-digit temperatures, water was frozen in several nearby creeks that firefighters use as a water supply.
